gurgling from shower (new thread)

The gurgling thread earlier got me thinking about a noise that I hear in my house. The master shower drain gurgles but only when the central AC/Heat/Fan is on. I had been hearing it for a while and had a plumber out a couple of times but no solutions. I finally realized last night that it is only when the central unit is running. Anybody know a simple solution or cause of this?

Mine does this when the heater is running. It hasn’t always so curious if something is wrong

If the drain gurgles when the AC is running a possible cause is an AC condensate line that empties into the bathroom drain line.
Oftentimes the condensate line connects to your drain in a bathroom sink cabinet.
Condensate lines frequently clog with mildew and dust. You can try blowing out the condensate line with compressed air.

that sounds likely. the condensate line and shower drain are fairly close. I'll try and blow that out when i get home tonight and report back. Thanks

if the a/c drain line has no p-trap and its an electric heater, then the a/c unit sucks air from the drain line. that could be sucking water out of the shower p-trap causing the noise.
if gas heat then the unit blows air into the drain line if there is no p-trap. that could be pushing water out of the shower p-trap causing the noise
since you connected the issue to the hvac is running, confirm the main drain line isnt clogged up
im sure its the drain line from it that is causing it, thats why it needs a p-trap on it.

Good information. I'm going to check that out when I get home as well.

yep, if the line is clogged it turns into a vacuum trying to suck air if it cant suck it from anywhere else.
lots of times people complain of musky smell on startup and i find its sucking in sewerage air because it had no p-trap to stop that and it drains 100x better with a p-trap like its designed to have.
but i have seen lots of shady shite from builders as well as homeowners doing their own repairs that dont understand it needs that p-trap

You say gurgling, but could it just be the AC drain dripping into the line?

I don't think so. It's a pretty obnoxious noise when it's happening. I'm going to check for a p-trap and then try and blast the condensate line with some compressed air. It definitely doesn't sound like just a drip.

Had a kink of similar problem a while back. My wife was hearing a noise in the master bath, but could not tell where the noise was coming from. She though it might be coming from the attic so I checked.... nothing.
Next day, she still heard the noise. When she turned on the water in the bathtub, the noise stopped. We hardly ever use that tub and the pee trap must not of had any water to seal off the sewer line. She was hearing the air blower going in the septic tank.
This might also be your cause of the noise.
