Building a pool in Northwest Houston. Three different pool bids are in. One company is saying they will spray the base of the pool at 10in deep, walls 8in thick and the main beams (under coping) 12in wide x 24in deep.

The other two proposals say they are 6in minimum. I am waiting getting the specific details on these two but wanted to get someone’s thoughts to see if the detailed above is overkill or not. I am told the soil in my yard is not “gumbo” soil and is more sand and clay.

Any commentary is appreciated.

A structural engineer may chime in but 3/8" on 8"centers with 6" thick or 1/2" on 12" centers with 6" thick wall/floor is about the same. I've been seeing this in Houston for a while with residential. Even some commercial applications in suitable soils have been doing 6" thick wall/floor but using 3/8" on 6" centers. This was used in Spring/Cypress area.

The 8"thick with 1/2" rebar on 10" centers seems more typical of Houston in general both commercial and residential settings that covers all soil types around here. When in doubt, spec that.
