I don't know exactly what to compare the smell to, but this is the closest description I can come up with. It smells like it's coming from both the drain and the faucet area.... anything I should be looking out for?

Flush both with freshwater for a few minutes

Tried that already last night. Ran water for several minutes, poured some hot water down the drain, put some vinegar down there... no dice on all of those.

Turn off the drain light. You obviously have lots of male moths down there.

in any unused bathrooms you need to pour a few ounces of straight bleach into each drain about once a month.

stagnant water in drain p-traps will turn to sewerage and smells like it in just a few weeks

also, if left long enough, the water in the p-trap can dry up to the point that it no longer blocks air and sewer gasses start leaking into the house

Ah, good to know! Yeah we renovated our main bathroom and had to use the guest for a bit. Probably been about a month since we've used it, so that would add up. Thanks!

a very gross yet interesting science experiment is fill a cup with water and set it out of the way somewhere for about a month.

when you go back to it after a few weeks its jellyfied and has milky slime in it, after 6-8 weeks that just plain water is orange, purple, and other weird colors and smells like road kill and if you stick in it its thick and the stick often stays there without falling over.

people think sewers are nasty but just plain water left in a container to go stagnant and funky is worse then sewerage and p-traps in unused bathrooms are the worst.
