Growing Squash varieties late summer/fall

Is there still a risk for vine Borers if planting squash/zucchini/pumpkin in the late summer/fall? I've given up on spring.

I've read that they have only one generation per year. I planted squash in July last year and still had all other than tromboncino and butternuts killed by borers. I planted them early this year and my plants are currently getting picked off by them. I guess their breeding is staggered or something. Next year I'm going to stick with tromboncino and butternuts. I have a candy roaster this year that hasn't been hit yet so that might be another option.
Last year there were a few butternuts on the vine that didn't have time to harden off before frosts started.

Do butternuts do better in S La when planted in July vs early spring?

In my experience growing pumpkins the last few years, I had vine borer pressure all the way until October.

I’ve read many different things to help combat with vine borers. Wood ask, weekly spraying of BT, wrapping the stalk with aluminum foil etc. I just spread bifen granules around my garden and have hit or miss success.

I put sevin dust on the stems themselves up to the first leaves. I see the mature moth laying eggs but haven’t lost any plants. I’m sure the larvae could go higher on the stem but it doesn’t seem like they do.

I did not grow squash for 2 years. Lat year I planted them in September and had no problems with SVB. Maybe I got lucky, IDK. I am trying it again this year.
