I am putting in a gravel path 50ft or so. First thought was #57 or # 8 limestone. Has anyone here used either or another rock type? Any lessons learned on type if you could do it over?

Pedestrian path? Decomposed granite is what I always use. It compacts down to a very firm almost concrete like surface after a few weeks and is very inexpensive. Make sure you put down weed mat first. Another attractive option is Tejas black gravel but it will be more expensive than DG......

Limestone is pretty ugly but probably is commonly used for driveways/ vehicular paths. I've used Tejas Black for residential driveways and it works well as long as the sub-base is properly prepared.

I'd be in favor of stepping stones or pavers more than a gravel path.
Can't walk on gravel barefooted and, if this pertains to you, dogs don't particularly like walking on gravel, either.

It’s said that #8 limestone and DG are considered barefoot tolerable surfaces. DG can be pricey and it takes the right type of sub base prep. You could always put concrete stones set in #8 limestone. Done that a lot in my designs.

Excellent feedback to all. Much appreciated!

It is a pedestrian path for the side of the house. Going to add mixture of plants and lighting as well.

Love the look of DG but admittedly on the fence between gravel vs pavers.
