If you don't want to use Specticle because of the price then I would use simazine. I prefer simazine to barricade/dimension in the fall. I prefer barricade/dimension in the spring for its control of crabgrass.

Does raking the yard in fall/winter affect the protection gained from Pre-emergents?
I would like to lay some down but with all of these Pines I always need to take a few times in bathe fall.

No. The herbicide is bound to the soil after it is watered in.

My understanding of preemergents is that they go down in the soil and provide a chemical barrier to weeds. That is why they need to be watered in. Raking wouldn’t affect that unless you put it out on top of a bunch of pine needles then raked it all up before it went in the soil.
