GE Microwave display issue

We have a three year old GE JVM7195SFSS Over the Range microwave that has started doing something strange. After a couple of minutes of non-use, the clock display goes out.
If you open/close the door it comes back on. All of the cooking/timer features work without issue, but as soon as it goes back to the clock display, after a minute or two it goes blank. It doesn't lose time or reset, just the display goes off.
I know some models have this as a feature that you can turn on/off by pressing the 0 on the touchpad, but I don't think this model has that feature. It isn't mentioned in the owner's manual, and the 0 doesn't have the word "display" on the key like the models that seem to have this feature do.
Any suggestions on troubleshooting or what might be wrong? I really don't want to have to replace the thing if at all possible.
tl;dr - microwave clock display disappears, but all other display functions working.

just roll with it baw
if the display has issues all you can do is replace it and then your talking around 50% or more of the price you bought it for so unless its something simple like a turntable ring or a knob fell off, they are rarely ever fixable due to costs of the parts
i took a quick peek and found this LINK

Have you tried turning off power saver mode by pressing and holding the power saver button?

quote:That's my plan. No need for a clock on the display, and for now everything else seems to be working. Was just curious if this was a symptom of more issues to come, (and if so, how long before we have to look at replacing it) or if it was an easy fix.

hard to say but yes it has an internal circuit issue that could never change or at any moment could not work at all.
i would start shopping around for one you like and then be ready and know what to buy when yours dies
or you could wait to find it on sale and put it in the garage until you need it. but the old one may keep on trucking for another year or two or more or die tomorrow so

changing the board out is easy and just removing a bunch of screws to get the shell off to access it, but as for repair cost you saw that, i know i would never buy a $175 part for a $225 microwave
