Fungus killed a couple of trees. Removed them and want to replace. What do I do with soil?

I feel like I need to treat the soil with something. I've dug out a lot of it and before I put fresh dirt in the hole I feel like I need to treat.
Any fungicide this group recommends? In East Tennessee and they were a couple of arborvitae evergreens (Emerald Greens). Only a year old.

Any idea what fungus it was that killed them??
Some plants are either immune or a lot more tolerant and can be planted directly to replace.
