I saw the first of those scumbags this evening and it’s only April. I thought they came in May last year? Anyway, prepare your dwellings and turn off the lights.

I recently finished a pool house build with some big cypress beams that has some natural checking going on. Should I do anything to prepare for the upcoming swarm?

I turn off every outside light source when they swarm and try to limit light exposure from the interior lights by having my working shutters closed and with the slats also closed.

I do have a street light about 40 ft. outside my front door and they swarm around it by the hundreds every night during their spring swarm.

I do have a neighbor that I wind up calling at least 2-3 times a week to let him know his automatic lights are coming on and attracting hundreds, if not thousands of termites right to the corners of his house at the gutter line. Why he doesn't just turn them off during the swarm is beyond me.

Soon. The mass exodus in S.ALA is the first night with high humidity that follows a mid-May afternoon shower.
lol. Nothing beats this knowledge when you already know the conditions are “any day” and you pull into the driveway a few hours after dark having been out of town for the weekend, knowing it rained earlier in the day and (no-pics) has every gd light in and outside of the house lit.

Hopefully those beams and their wooden supports have no direct ground contact. If that's the case, you'll be fine.
