It depends on the work being done. Adding a spare bedroom with basic finishings and no bathrooms, sure $125 easy. One guy here added onto his master with probably pretty damn nice finishings and he could have worked on a bathroom, added a nice finished closet, etc. Obvisouly that's going to be more.
OP, I wouldn't worry about "bothering" a contractor. Tell them you'd like to get the job started in a couple of months and would just like a bid. For all they know and you too, its the truth after a bid comes in. Get 2-3 bids and go from there. You may get some good ideas on how to make it cheaper or options also.

Oct 21 - March 22. It was at the absolute worst time when wood and all construction material skyrocketed in price. It might be a little better now. Good luck.
