Currently developing some property to build on. It’s at the end of a street. The power stops at the last house on the street. I bought the acreage at the dead end. I have cleared a road going in and a pad for a house. I have cleared the 30 foot right of way Entergy’s requires. The issue is the last power pole is in the front yard of the last home on the street. It has one tall pine tree that’s being required to be trimmed or removed. Entergy is saying it’s on me and I’m responsible to remove the tree or trim it. This tree is not on my property or even remotely close to a property line. It’s in the neighbors front yard. I haven’t spoken to the neighbor yet. I feel if it’s Entergy’s right of way they should speak to her and tell her they need to trim it. What’s your thoughts?

My only experience is seeing the weird things Demco will do to avoid cutting trees.

Can they cross the street with a new pole and then proceed onto your land? I agree you shouldn’t be responsible for cutting someone else’s tree. Also if I was the neighbor, I wouldn’t want the tree touched.

I’d definitely speak to a few people either who know Entergy or have Entergy. On two occasions I’ve had to tell Entergy first line customer the actual rules. An experienced electrician helped me with the emergency reconnection rules.(customer service wouldn’t). And when those Entergy idiots disconnected the wrong meter the first line tried to tell me I needed a permit. The parish called them and helped me get past that. Point being is the first line service appears to always be it’s on you

Is the tree in an existing Entergy right of way? If so they can remove it, or have the landowner remove it if it was planted within the ROW post construction.

Go have a conversation with your future neighbor and see what they say. I would also be prepared to offer compensation for removing the tree.

pretty much.
talk to your neighbor and tell him you’ll pay to have it trimmed. If he says no then escalate with entergy engineering.

Maybe talk to the Public Service Commission which regulates Entergy.

Entergy says it’s cheaper for me to speak with the neighbor and hope to get permission to trim or remove. If entergy does it the cost will be significantly higher. It is on a right of way/ servitude. They can deal with tree if she doesn’t allow me access.

It is in right of way with other utilities. Yes entergy can do it even if she refuses. However since I’m the customer wanting power all cost go to me.

Have you met with an engineer from Entergy on site?

Do you have an electrician?

I have spoken to the engineer, he has been out twice and sent email with picture and marked trees to me removed and trimmed. I have also spoken to his supervisor who claims the same thing. I am responsible for getting power from the last pole on the street to my property, this includes trees in neighboring front yard.

Well find a guy and cut that bitch down or trim it. Make sure he has insurance though.

Make it clear to your neighbor the situation and that they won’t run a line unless it’s cut down or trimmed.

If the neighbor still says no, frick em. You don’t want to be friends with them anyway.
