Electrical help

I have a GFI outlet just stop working all of a sudden. I went ahead and changed it to a new one, everything worked fine for a day and then it fried again. Guess I'm going to have to get an electrician... Any thoughts on what I can check myself?

The problem could lie in what's plugged into the GFCI receptacle; I'd check that first. Second, check the ground connection at the receptacle box and the breaker panel.

Or along the GFCI circuit.
I had a similar problem and I believe I traced it down to an adapter I had plugged into an outdoor receptacle that was on the circuit. I was using it to turn on and off some seasonal lights. Apparently water was getting in it. I pulled it off and the problem stopped. I got a new adapter with better moisture protection and the problem has not reappeared.
Do you happen to have a fridge/freezer plugged into the circuit? That may be drawing more amps than the receptacle can handle....Maybe due to the motor straining.
