But as was said if you have an adjacent window they’ll just break that instead so visible cameras, lights and a multiple phase approach to making a home the hardest target on the block seems best.

If someone wants to get to who’s in the house they’d probably just light it on fire and have you open it for them.

This needs to stop. Pretty sure I have a drug dealer down my street or just a trashy drug head.

Homeowners Associations should focus their time on stopping this.

I got these when my toddler figured out he could use the standard door locks and was always trying to escape. They are extremely strong and I doubt anyone could kick the door open with it

HOAs are just neighbors with jobs. They make no money to do thankless work for the neighborhood. the HOA property management company is just a bookkeeper and they are good at filing liens and sending people to collections. There's no kid working at the property management companies that could confront drug dealers. Fellow neighbors shouldn't because of repercussions. We had a drug dealer (adderal out of his trunk) and the HOA told him to pick up some lava rocks he threw in the grass of the common space that was causing issues for the lawn crew, and in response he retaliated by killing snakes and hanging them on the car of the HOA president. He also broke into cars, had domestic disputes, etc. It's just plain dangerous to deal with these people alone.

What a great topic for this board. I have mostly windows on my door, so I feel that even if I fortify my door, all you'd have to do is break the large window of the door. Whenever we think it might be time to get a gun, I always think...maybe I should start with cameras, lights, better door locks and all the things discussed her.

All of the things we have discussed don’t mitigate the need to be able to defend yourself when, not if, a determined home invasion gets through any fixed defenses. All those things just buy you various amounts of time to call the police or reach a firearm.

But with windows you described there’s no way police get there in time to prevent that person from doing whatever they want to whoever is inside absent a gun.

But the reality with a gun is you better be prepared to train with it to know how to safely use it and you better be prepared to pull the trigger or it’s better to flee or hide because if they see you as a threat the situation is guaranteed to escalate.
