Thinking about dethatching my lawn but i am pretty unfarmiliar with the process other than a few youtube videos i have watched. Is now a good time to do this and have any of you done this with a dethatching rake? I dont have a large area to do so i thought about buying the rake to keep cost low. It is 3000sqft i need to do which is primarily centipede grass, which is not my favorite but i don't feel like resodding. Once dethatched should i fertilze, and if so with what? Any tips appreciated. Thanks

I would not recommend a rake. Your arm will fall off after the first 10 sqft. Get a cheap electric dethatcher like sunjoe. It's well worth it.

Also, you might want to wait another month or so for the grass to get more active before you dethatch. This will help the grass to fill in the bare spots faster rather than weeds.

Leaf rake and aerate. You don't want to manually dethatch a centipede lawn.

I have centipede as well and I have not found that it grows fast enough to need dethatching.
