Cost to replace A/C condenser coil?

Butcher A/C came by and quoted me $1085 to replace my condenser coil. The part is under warranty, but they said $1085 was the cost for shipping and labor. Am I getting raped, or does it normally cost this much for labor?
Also, I was kind of weary when the technician came by and diagnosed the problem...after 20-30 minutes of searching for the leak, he went to the outside unit and said the darkened areas on the unit’s grate signified that the leak was coming from the condenser coil. I know nothing about HVAC systems, so just want to be reassured I’m not getting a fast one pulled over me.

How old is the unit? Most units have a 10 year warranty for replacement parts, not labor. I would try to contact the maker of your unit to see what is what. And yes, that is a arse raping price.

Yes, without any lube.

That seems awful high just for the condenser coil. They will have to drain the system of refrigerant and remove and replace the coil and braise any fitting to it, but I would think they'd be in and out in just a couple hours time.

Is Butcher who you bought it from? If you end up telling them to take a flying leap I can recommend a someone to service your unit in the filter. Most honest and reliable AC guy I’ve ever dealt with.
Butcher has always been pricey but we’re always know for reliability and integrity. I feel the company pivoted away from that for several years ago.

quote:No, Acadiana A/C in Maurice installed it when we purchased the home in 2013, but I could never get a call back from them.

Who is your recommendation?

Manning AC. (337) 316-0234
Rodney Manning is the owner and primary guy who does the work. He worked for Butcher a few decades ago. Small shop, basically him and his brother in law and maybe a couple of other helpers at times. If he doesn’t have the time he will let you know that as well.

I had this problem last year and your getting raped. I had a quote at 1000$ for the part which was free under warranty and labor was 400$. I had problems with this cheap arse Goodman product since I had it so I decided to rip the whole air handler out and replace it with a Carrier.
