Does anyone have any insight on building a container home in South LA? I visited one recently and it was about 2500 sqft and was very nice. Guy was bragging how cheap it was but was curious if anyone had any experience around here.

If you are going to hire a contractor you are going to lose all chances of building cheaper than stick.

You need to know how to weld, how to insulate, and how to plumb up windows and doors.

Knowing how to construct a slab will help, but you can get someone to draw up those plans to submit.

Do you have metal working tools, and can you weld?
If no, there went your savings. You can't just hire any Bob the Builder to do that type of work. You move yourself into the realm of metal fabricators and welders, and it's expensive.

This is the same as the "barndo" craze, it started as a cheaper option because people would DIY and save. Now it's mostly a fad, expensive and misunderstood by people who can't install a toilet.
