Considering adding a water feature to some outdoor space

I'm a yard guy and love a lawn but unfortunately our current house isn't set up that way. We are surrounded by basically heavy trees and pine straw on all sides. We also have a VERY steep driveway. We've been settled in for about 2 years now so I've got a bit of a bug to do some nice renovation to the property in some way. As you come up the steep driveway, on the left there is a very small area that has a flat little clearing, and behind this tiny flat space is a little alcove bordered by some natural rock and trees. Figured it would be a perfect location for some kind of water feature, although I'm ignorant on the topic I don't really know what exactly. Basically just something that has stone and water, and that's about all I have in mind.
I've identified some companies around town that specialize in this kind of thing so I know that will be my next step but my main reason for posting here is to get any kind of VERY BROAD, ballpark, general guesstimate on cost. I know that will vary wildly based on what we do but I have zero clue off the bat. Is it one of those things that you're looking at at least $10K no questions asked and go up from there, or can you get by with some kind of basic setup for only a few grand?
Also for anything that involves water I assume a pump will be needed but will a constant water source be as well? In other words, will we have to have a hose hooked up to it in some way? Or since it's outside will natural rainfall be ok with occasional fillups with the hose as needed?

it would be best if you had a water source (can be a small trickle) and a discharge/overflow which if you are on a slope should be easy enough to do. If you want moving water like a little waterfall your options are a pump or gravity depends on the incline and geometry.
no idea on cost but there are literally hundreds of DIY options you can look at to get an idea of what you want. If your soil is not hard pan you’re going to want a liner or tub. A location in the shade would also be preferable
I would like very much to do something similar but the other occupant of the compound is skeptical.
