Of the 6 years I've lived in my house this is the worse my yard has looked. It still looks great but I notice every detail. I was talking to the other reel mower in my neighborhood and he said the same thing. We both decided it was because we spent so much energy and money fighting the drought last year. Water bills the size of car notes, hand watering hot spots, doing the screwdriver test to remove any rocks, etc. We just didn't have the energy this year. There have been times this year I've had to pull out the rotary mower because I missed a cut.

I'm in the same boat. Didn't even put out pre emergent. Didn't fertilize. Did one broadcast application of MSM in May and then spot sprayed with celsius once. Started off mowing 3x per week but the last month or so I've just been cutting once per week. Front yard has a lot of kyllinga and VBW in it. Backyard is covered with doveweed, goose grass, nutsedge, and chamberbitter. Just got tired of keeping up with it. After moving sprinklers around for 2 or 3 weeks after work every day I'm over it.

I am going to put down some ammonium sulfate tomorrow to try to help bring the ph down a little and see if it helps with how things look right now. Bout to shut mine down once temps cool down a little and try again next year but plan on hitting the ground running next year.
