2015 BMW 328

Wife went to work this morning and then to grocery store. Went to start after loading groceries up and car is dead. No lights, inside anything. Dead dead. Met her there to give a jump and won’t start. Lights will come on inside the car, radio etc will work but doesn’t think about starting.
Kicker is new battery one year ago. Never seen car work fine and then 45 min later dead as a door nail like this.

Any ideas? Simple as a bad battery or something else going on. For the price of last battery that damn thing should last longer

Sounds like the battery to me. I have had one do the same thing in my truck. Went to eat breakfast and got home and 5 min later it wouldn’t stsrt in the driveway. Battery was 3 months old.

Bad battery connection?

That's the first place to look.

If jumping a car...with another car...you should at least get lights. Then at least an attempt to start. Should at least click. I have a jumpstarter pack than can start a car without a battery even in it.

BMWs have weird power issues. Most likely a loose nut on the battery or distribution block. Sometimes they’re just a little loose and pass the eye test but won’t contact.

Starter?
My son went to get gas in his X5 and then it would not start. Starter did not even try to turn over. Weirdly it also refused to release the parking brake - tow truck had to drag it up the ramp to get it on the truck.

German cars have some strange behavior when something goes wrong.

Could be the alternator going out, which will lead to a dead battery. It does sound like a bad connection though . Were you able to get it started?

Update

Took battery and got it tested and it tested fine. Reinstalled battery and everything works fine. Loose connection somewhere but didn't notice anything unusual when was taking it out. Guess I'll let it ride as is and hopefully it was a one off.

Great news!

If it happens again, prepare to buy her a new car!

Try removing the negative terminal off the battery for about 5 minutes. Hard reset to computer.
That doesn’t work, you might have a bad starter solenoid.
