Can I add metal soffit vents to a vinyl soffit material?

My attic is really hot and my current soffit is vinyl with a bunch of tiny holes on the inside of each seam. I'm thinking they're not providing enough ventilation so I'd like to add vents to them but I am not knowledgeable on how to replace all the vinyl soffit myself. Is this doable or will this look like pure trash? There's wood soffit just above the vinyl - I'm not aware of why the prior owner covered it so I don't know the quality of the wood.

Most likely the vinyl soffit holes don’t allow any venting since it was installed over the existing wood soffit. You could remove a piece of vinyl soffit, cut a hole in the existing wood soffit to allow venting, and put the vinyl soffit panel back in place. You would need to do that around the perimeter of the house.

They got tired of painting.

What kind of roof vents do you have? Is the vinyl soffit staggered over the original vent holes?

Depends on the installer, many times, you put wood strips along the soffit, allowing an air space. How many solid before it gets to a perforated (with the holes) piece of vinyl.

All of it is perforated inside the seams. I also have ridge vents going along the length of both angles if the roof. Just seems wayyy too hot in there like there’s not enough ventilation.

That should give enough updraft, if you have enough opening of the wooded section of the soffit. You just have ridge vents?

Being hot is not the issue. Not having enough air movement is a concern.

Having just ridge vents can be a problem if there is not enough linear feet to provide for proper air flow. Is the roof a gable or hip/valley? Is there enough gap at the roof sheathing/ridge vent?
