Buy a half dozen Guinea fowl and feed em around the wood line. They will gang up on a snake like hood rats.

A sharped garden hoe was the preferred snake dispatching implement of our grandmothers and great grandmothers.

My house is in the woods and I can only tell you how I've reduced snake kills from 5 a year to only 1 a year.
a. Forget products that repel. The rain makes them useless.
b. Spring..that's when snakes come out to have sex. Be ready.
c. Get a roof scraper. It's a cheap tool that looks like a hoe but much lighter and with a straight edge instead of an angle. Easier for stabbing snakes at a safe distance than bothering with a gun.
d. Dogs will deter snakes. They would rather go someplace without the bother.
e. Droughts...snakes will move toward water when the woods get dry.
f. Don't worry about what kind of snake. Kill them all and let God sort them out.

Don't kill these (speckled king snake)! They are on your side and will eat a lot of snakes. Their scent scares off other snakes.

I have to kill them. They come after my skinks. I've got a huge family of brightly colored skinks living under my back porch. They've been there for years and know me so they're not afraid of me. They kill tons of ants and other insects that used to bother our porch picnics.
