I currently have a JD X350 with mulching blades and kit installed and have been ok with the cut. I have sharpened them numerous times so it's getting time to replace them and looking at options. I hear lots of love for gator blades but not sure if they are better than the stock JD's.

I tried the Gators out about 3 years ago on my JD. They looked like they would mulch better but they didn't. OEM blades cut/ mulch better and are cheaper.

G6 Gator Blades. Nothing else compares. Other versions of the gator blades don't compare.

I switched over to sunbelt blades and haven’t looked back. They are half the price of most oem blades and hold an edge really well. I’ve mowed 5-7 acres about 12 times this year so far, haven’t sharpened them yet and they are still not leaving any stragglers in bahia grass.

I've heard the Gator blades are too heavy and end up doing more harm to the mower than good to the lawn. I have one on a push mower and it works wonderfully but I'm afraid to put them on my Hustler.

this ^^^^^^^^

get a set of oregon or stens brand blades, they are good quality like oems but without the oem marked up prices.

keep them sharp and all regular blades with the raised lip mulch great, only ones that dont mulch is the flat blades with no raised edge

the raised edge lifts the grass so the second edge recuts it again thereby mulching it

im not saying a dedicated mulching blade with extra cutting edges wont mulch it better then a regular blade but the difference in a regular blade and a mulching blade isnt something you will notice since you are talking about making clippings 1/8" long vs 1/16" long so unless you are that anal about it then its a non factor

i ran a lawn mower repair shop for a couple of years and if you want to save money buy all your blades and belts from ebay at less then half the price you get them at local stores. blades are $10 each, oil filters are $6, belts on average are only $15, tubes are only $10, carburetors are $16

Good advice guys, the stock mulching blades from JD are almost 30 bucks a piece.

I run G3 Gators on my Bradley stander. I have no complaints. I also heard high lifts are great something like the bobcat eliminator blades
