Bathtub Inserts vs new tub

House was built in 1970 and the harvest gold and blue tubs weigh a ton. Is going with an insert better than removing these behemoths? New tubs are relatively cheap, but removing these old ones seems to be difficult.
Anybody have experience with this?

No experience, but inserts look crappy IMO. Do it right and demo and rebuild.

Can you not resurface it? Will be cheaper and easier, if it’s cast iron and standard 30x60 tub I’d lean to keeping it and change out surround and faucets

Sledgehammer the old one or sawzall.

Cover it with an old comforter and go to town with a sledge hammer.

Why is it hard to remove? Space, lack of knowledge, or trying not to damage the surround? Are you keeping the tile around it? If so don’t sledgehammer obviously. They aren’t easy but with the proper tools not overly difficult.
Sawzall or grinder with a cutting disk works great on them FYI. Cut in half or into 3-4 parts and they remove fairly easily. Easier to cut it up smaller to remove.
You can buy either tools for $30 at harbor freight for a one time use.

Not keeping the tile around it. Thanks, sledgehammer and sawzall it is!
