We poured a fairly large concrete slab as an extension to our backyard patio and to put a hot tub on along with my outdoor kitchen shite. It's not covered so when it rains and I'm cooking it sucks.

I have seen those canopy things over playgrounds and stuff for a couple years now and it looks like they don't fade in color.

Has anyone installed one of these at their house? If so, what was thr price range?

Are you talking about the sunshades that are pulled tight at the corners?

If so, you can buy them fairly cheaply on Amazon in a whole array of colors, sizes and shapes. I put a triangle one up over a portion of my pool and love it.

Also put up a cheapo off amazon as alternative to covering an extended patio. Sunk a pole in one corner and connected to house at other 3.

Buy your own hardware from HD. Use cable instead of rope. Needs to be strongly anchored because there needs to be a lot of tension on it to keep taut.

I picked up some all stainless cable and hardware from amazon as well. But yes, it takes a great deal of tension to get them up there. Even with turnbuckles. I damn near pulled myself and ladder into the pool several times. Puckery a-hole moments.

Yeah.

I guess I need a pole to connect the ends together right off the edge of the slab.

I anchored mine into the fascia on my house in two spots and our outside office on the third. Just keep in mind they are under a great deal of tension to get them taught. Mine is not waterproof, just a dense screen that lets the rain flow through. The material of the shade itself is a bit stretchy as well. It was a lot of effort getting it tight. Corner to corner trying to build more tension.

I only say all that because any post tall enough to be above your head will have to be beefy to handle it. The tension is probably in the 100 lb range on each corner.

I found a place in San Antonio that installs them. Any idea what the price on something like that would be?

They are used all over the world, especially in the middle east and work well. They are usually not waterproof, but I'm sure there are waterproof options. Easy to install and relatively cheap. The hardest part is installing the pole(s) it is attached to, they have to be set well.

I have some and they work great for sunshade but if you’re looking for something to keep the rain off while you cook, they won’t. The water just goes through them.
