Anyone have experience with propagating/air layering??

Specifically with a hibiscus. Normally I grow these guys as patio annuals, but I have a particularly pretty bloomer this year and would like to try my hand at propagation.
I've done some cuttings over the years but I've never been very scientific about it.
I'd assume these cuttings would bloom like the parent plant since they're not coming from seed??

I've done it with fig trees before, but fig propagation is possibly the easiest thing in the world. It works great.
Yeah, you'll have a clone of the original plant.

100% generically the same.

Razor blade, rubbing alcohol, 45 degree cut in the right area, then some rooting hormone powder/gel. Don't oversaturate your grow medium, but also don't let it dry out.

There's not enough dissolved oxygen in a cup of water to stave off anaerobic bacteria for more than a few days. Tapwater chlorine would have dissapated by then as well. I get it may work, but there's also greater likelihood of things going tits up as well. Short story long, change your water at least twice a week, or toss in an aquarium pump.

Water gets changed every 2-3 days.
Also do the same for Ficus, Mandevilla and Hawaii Ti plants, when they get too tall

We always did it in the heat of summer. Nick a ring around the bark on a branch, soak a wad of spaghnum moss in some Rootone (rooting hormone) water. Leave it dripping and wrap around the bare spot on the branch, cover securely with plastic using twist ties. Once you see roots, cut off the branch and plant it.
