Anyone have a Ryobi weed eater?

I bought one of these stupid things, and the head is driving me nuts. It has an auto feeder that releases string every time you let go of the trimmer. Next thing you know, you have a foot of string hanging out. Does anyone have an after market head to make this easier? Thanks.

Get rid of it and buy EGO or Greenworks

I have one and I don’t care for it at all. I haven’t had what you’re describing happen but I hate the way it’s built. The string is way too high in the head so I have to tilt it to get good cuts. It’s difficult to throttle it, seems like it’s all or nothing. I have the one that you can change attachments on, I have the edger for it and it is terrible too. Previously had EGO stuff and it was pretty good but the batteries always seemed to be shot right after the warranty was expired so, instead of buying new batteries, I switched to the 40v Ryobi stuff to give it a shot.

I thought that about my little 20v Dewalt, the folding one with the speed head not the $60 one. It was dumb at first but now I’m going from out of string to whacking again in under two minutes.

I have the opposite problem. I frequently need to manually let line out. I must not let go of the trigger often enough. I don't have one but I'd probably prefer one of these bump style heads.

Had a Ryobi gas trimmer years ago. Ended up throwing it through the wall in my garage at my last home and buying an Echo.

I bought the replacement head from Lowe’s. It’s the one with the 3 swivel loops on it so you just cut 3 pieces of line and thread them through. It’s fantastic. I had the same problem as you with the bump being so high off the ground I couldn’t cut anything. This makes it a completely different machine.
