Looking at possibly building in 2024. Looking at building a modest 1800-2000 sq/ft house. Wondering what it cost you per square foot and if you did any work yourself? I know it’s not the best time with interest rates but may be the best time for me.

I own the land

Just built in Livingston Parish. They handled everything except we cleared the land and had the dirt pad ready for them. Cost me $142 a sq/ft. I did go cheaper on some things like flooring but spent a lot on cabinets and bigger kitchen, walk in pantry. I didn’t think it was to bad of a price, we could have gotten it for around $130 if we stayed in our original budget. That’s also just the living. We only paid $115 sq/ft if you include the whole house.

A guy at work says he’s building for $130/sqft. I hope it’s true

My mother just built in the Central area, in an HOA neighborhood. She was just under $160 Sq ft for 2500 square feet. Solid wood floors, quartzite, big brick front porch. Exterior cladding 80% brick (old brick) with a few small areas of hardie (back porch mostly).

ETA: this was a fully custom home, drawn from scratch. Price per square foot included design.

We are planning to start within the next 3 or so months. I'd have to double check but I think it's around $180/sq ft. We are hiring a GC and not self contracting.

Any pictures of the house? Did you use plans off the internet or custom?
Does your $ include a driveway. I’m looking to start building by the end of the year as well.

Anyone shop metal vs shingle cost?

Do you mind sharing the builder / GC? I’m looking to build a custom home in the next year and this $/ sq. ft in the area sounds pretty reasonable.

I’ve got estimates from $145 to $240 / sq. ft for the plans we’ve chosen.

Kokesh Construction. Formerly Gafford construction, the daughter has taken over the business, but Dwayne Gafford still draws the plans.
