Looking at buy an upstairs condo unit, in a renovated 40 year old building. There are a couple of spots in the floor that are squeaky when stepped on. Is there any easy way to quiet squeaky floors. The current flooring is a laminate hard wood.

Changing the barrier underneath. Probably isn't worth it though.

I know it would be a major job. It bothers me but not the wife or kids (the kids will live there during college). We really like this unit and location, so I'm debating on buying it and either living with the squeak or trying to fix it a few years down the road.

Hell, on my floors that were squeaking, you could walk on it and feel it "give" and move up and down on the nail. That's why it worked.

If only they'd have had that when I was in high school... we had a couple of squeaky steps and places in the hall that I simply couldn't avoid when coming in late. I think my parents kept it that way on purpose.

you need to pull up the flooring where it squeaks and screw down the sub floor better

This. Its simply a matter of the subfloor either being loose or too thin. If its just loose due to nails then you can simply screw it down. By too thin I mean you could possibly need to replace or add plywood to it to firm it up so it no longer flexes because the weight is too great in places you step.

By simply I mean the problem is simple, the solution is likely a PITA.
