Ended up purchasing a new Ariens 42' zero turn a month or so ago. One thing that has become very much a disappointment is that while the construction of the deck seems very high quality, there are no anti scalp wheels. The deck just floats. My back yard is completely flat, so it does A-OK and looks pretty great. My front yard slopes down from the front porch and the right side....so hills, so scalping. Looks like hell. I've leveled the deck, made sure the pressure in the tires is good....no change.

Anybody added anti scalp wheels? If there is a simple enough fix without welding, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise I'm deeming it garbage and selling it.

I don't own any Ariens products, but I have modified other equipment to suit my needs or make up for design deficiencies.

Best bet is to browse an Ariens parts list ( Jack's Small Engines for example) and see if a similar model has bolt-on anti-scalp wheels that will fit.

Pretty much decided that for my yard, this thing ain't gonna work. Cuts great where its flat and easy, but the lack of scalp wheels is a deal breaker for the slopes in my front yard.
Fixed my old Husqvarna lawn tractor and the cut looks 100 times better.

I'm no pro but scalping will exist regardless on certain slope angles won't it? If the mow setting is too low isn't it inevitable?
