If you need a temporary solution, I have had success with a shade sail. Although I did have to sink one post on the corner of the extra slab.

What type/size of post did you use? And how deep did you bury that sucker?

I've been bouncing the idea of a shade sail setup for a portion of my pool deck area, but would love to engineer it so that it's removable.

I've got some dumb ideas in my head, but imagine the tension at the top of the posts would have to be pretty high to keep the sail taut.

I used a 4x4x10 buried about 3' deep with a sack of concrete. To "remove" it, I'll just dig down a little, cut below the ground level and recover with dirt. It's plenty strong enough to handle the tension of the sail

If I am I’m not trying to do so. Maybe I’m not articulating what I’m trying to convey well. I have friends that had porch and patio additions added on in their back yard. After Hurricane Sally the insurance companies did not want to pay for any of the damages due to those projects done out back that they deemed not up to code. If I were to do some kind of project out back I’d contact my insurance company and ask are there any kind stipulations that must be met in the event that a storm tears up my renovations. The ones that had the most problems were issues over how something was attached to the roof.
