Does anyone have experience adding a lintel to exterior brick? I need to add a lintel over a new exterior door.

Do I need a cavity tray with weep holes? The only videos I can find on YouTube are all British for some reason. Nothing in the US. Is it standard practice to have a cavity tray with weep holes over the angle iron lintel?

I don’t have stone interior like that picture. Standard wood framing and sheathing with brick facade.

Assuming "cavity tray" would be the flashing, then yes you want to add flashing to help any water that gets behind the brick exit the wall without sitting on top the lintel and rusting it out. Definitely want weep holes in the first course of brick at every 4th brick joint (24" on center).

Flashing would be nailed to your sheathing and apply a strip of self adhering flashing tape over the top to stop water getting behind the flashing.

Also, you should use copper or synthetic coated flashing with any brick/masonry.
