My daughter's dryer was not working at all last week. It had a bad double 30 breaker. One side was open. I swapped it out and the unit ran.

Now she is saying it is not heating, but runs. She cannot remember if it heated after the breaker swap or not. She doesn't recall it being an issue.

My question is about the breaker wiring. I did not make a note of which wire was on which breaker. They went back into the same slots on the panel.

Would switching the two wires around make a difference?

No.

But I would check voltage across the breaker and each side to ground to make sure the proper voltage is supplied.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks.

I would also check the continuity on the heating element of her dryer.

I'm just thinking the initial trip may have been the element burning apart then grounding out, and now it's just open.

Current trips the breaker (thermal expansion, usually, but that is a function of current). Current =Voltage/Resistance. The elements have a certain resistance pr foot, and if it breaks and grounds at half its length, the resistance will be half, so the current will double.

But that can easily not be the issue, either

Check voltage and then the thermal fuse that’s in the dryer

One leg was open at the dryer outlet. I'll fess up. Swapped out the double breaker on a hot panel, won't do it again. Surprised I've made it to my age.

I did not get one of the wires into the breaker to tighten down. It was on the outside of the screw down connection. It must have made a connection for a little while, but opened up.

We used to call that "getting eaten up by a case of the Dumb arse."

Good job on diagnosing the problem.
