Anyone else dealt with this and have any recommendations?

Plant resistant varieties. That’s about the only thing you can do as far as I know. I don’t think there’s any way to treat it.

My boy’s sunflower from school bloomed over the weekend.

That gave my wife a great idea. She decided that she wanted a sunflower bed. That was her Mother’s Day gift. So, that took up most of my weekend.

I may dress it up a little more with a small ledge. But she’s happy, so I may just keep it simple. Planted some mixed sunflowers and zinnias in it.

Of course I couldn’t let the beautiful St Augustine that was under it go to waste. I carefuly lifted it and transplanted it in some of my more troubled lawn areas.

Can’t wait to roast some sunflower seeds!

ETA: Also, that raised bed will definitely get some use for some fall vegetables. Maybe carrots or garlic. Got plenty of time to figure that out.

That’s not a bad idea. Having a wild flower bed to attract pollinators and using it as a fall bed in the off season.

It’s kind of been a pain trying to plant around my onion and garlic.

I don’t know if I’ll get the full benefit for pollinators since I’m starting it in May, but next year it should definitely help. Heck, between the materials and dirt, it cost me less than $100 to build that box (by the way, it’s 8’ x 4’ x 10”). I may make a couple more.

Do you have a picture? I feel like mine look like they are ready to be pulled by looking at the plant but I know if I pull now, I won't have a great harvest.

I'll try to remember to takes some pics when I get home. I would up with over 60 plants that came up. I was surprised at how big the bulbs were on some of the plants with small tops.

In other news, I picked my first Celebrity tomato yesterday.

Here was the latest harvest from the red and gold potatoes in the planter boxes. The Yukon Golds did not perform as well this year. I am hoping the ones in the bags produce more. Most of these potatoes have already been processed and frozen.

I believe the variety was Cajun.

Creole maybe? I got some Moroccan Creole (I think from rareseeds.com). I haven't seen any scapes yet. I'm hoping they just take a little longer to develop.

Yes, creole was the name.

I honestly was not expecting mine to be ready so soon since they are supposed to go into June and July. I just had a bunch of them fall over during the storms a week or two ago. They started yellowing so I pulled the fallen over ones and was surprised how big the bulbs had gotten. Now all are starting to yellow. Hopefully your bulbs will swell nicely in the coming weeks.

So you're saying I just need to be patient...

...that's not my best quality.

Convert did you see any scapes on them? I have zero on my creoles. They started to fade, but with the rains have gotten healthier, but still no scapes. I may pull one up to see if there is a bulb.

I only had one that threw up scapes. I didn’t notice until the bulb had already split. The rest never sent up scapes. Here are a couple pics.

Here is one in the ground than then pulled. I'mnot sure if they are ready but they look like it to me.

Here is another.

Here are a couple more of the garden.

That was a couple weeks ago. The tomatoes will not stop growing.

These are 2 Jimmy Nardello peppers that I planted in the wicking tub. That's a 20 gallon tub for reference.

Garden looks great. Yeah my garlic looks about the same. Maybe a little greener but I don’t see any heads. I did plant the cloves 2” deep. I may dig one up to see. If there’s no head then I seriously doubt the others will have cloves

We are in the same boat.

I imagine if I pulled some of my largest they would have bulbs, but I’d be so frustrated with myself if they didn’t.

I had a few that for some reason sprouted a few months after the rest.

All of mine sprouted together. I failed last year with them. Only had two heads develop. I also failed at onions last year, but have them this year so I still have faith I can one day grow garlic

Thanks guys. Yeah I planted my garlic about and inch and a half deep. Only the plants that were on a slope showed the bulbs. Some of the stalks were over an inch thick before they started drying up. Those made the biggest bulbs.

First time blossom rot is showing up in my garden. Best fix would be bone meal right?

Luckily those are the only 2 to show signs so far.

If it’s a calcium issue bone meal or CaN will work. It could just be a watering issue though. My soil isn’t calcium deficient but blossom end rot shoes up every now and then with inconsistent watering.
