Go down to Fatani's entry on translation.

The Bible was translated too...The point of the OT's question is why are some religious threads tolerated while others are anchored/whacked?

It isn't fair that only Bible threads are allowed. If someone is offended by the Koran threads, they don't have to read. I don't read the Bible threads b/c I don't care. I would read a daily Koran thread, however.

But translations of the Bible do not inherently change the theological meaning of the Bible. For Muslims, translating the Qu'ran changes revelation due to Arabic being the actual language of God. A Qu'ran study thread would only be worthwhile for a Muslim if it was in Arabic.

It's arguable that translating the Bible does not change the theological meaning.

Also, I'm not Muslim, so I don't believe Arabic is the language of God. So all Muslims speak Arabic? If not, how do they study the Koran?

They're supposed to.

They learn from someone who does, such as the imam.

quote:

Also, I'm not Muslim

Then why would you read a Qu'ran Study Thread, which would attempt to explore the theological meaning behind suras of the Qu'ran?

Ok, once again I'm not Muslim and I seriously doubt all American Muslims know Arabic.

Does this imply the Catholic Church should go back to saying Mass in Latin and not letting members read the Bible. Can only Imans/Priests understand the word of God?

Because as an open minded person, I'm genuinely interested in learning the beliefs of different religions.

Why are you being obtuse? And the former part of your statement is incorrect (but ok as I assume you don't know that there are over 23 different rites of the Catholic Church, each with its own liturgy) and the latter is absolute bullshite.

Dirty Aubie nailed it.

You didn't bring any discussion to your threads. It was like you went to some random website and copied and pasted a bunch of verses. You didn't answer questions. I wouldn't call copying and pasting verses as a "bible study".

If you had actually tried to have a discussion then maybe you may have been given a chance.

I agree, if you are serious about Koran studies, give it another shot with compelling talking points for discussion. Try to inspire conversation with the content you are posting. If it gets whacked then you may have a legitimate gripe otherwise don't troll TulaneLSU.

Like the kind folk have said, if you were serious about studying the Koran, which we know you aren't, you would be allowed. Why does everyone know you aren't sincere? Take a look at your post history. Leading up to the Koran Study, you harassed the Bible Study and TL Movie Review Threads with the following messages:

quote:

Alllrrrrrrrrrrrrrighty then....

quote:

These silly arse threads are protected by the powers that be for whatever reason brah...

quote:

Hold the phone...are you implying that TulaneLSU is a pompous blowhard ?...

quote:

link=(LINK ]Allrrrrrrrrrrrrrighty then.

quote:

"frick Jesus" -Eric Cartman.

quote:

You sit around with your thesaurus trying so hard to craft the most pretentious, outrageous posts imaginable just to get a reaction out of people. If anyone were genuinely as pompous as you IRL, they would have been beaten to death long ago

quote:

You are without a doubt the most pretentious sack of shite in all of tigerdroppings.com. It oozes out of every single putrid post you have made. Please spare us from having to endure anymore.

You have also posted pornography in the Bible Study Thread, all of which was deleted.

I believe one of the rules of TD is users are not allowed to harass other users, but it seems, looking at your post history, you enjoy harassing me. I don't think I've ever responded to your enticements before now, and I only do so because you are accusing the admin of playing favorites. If the admin favor me, explain why my Top 10 lists, which often take an hour or two to write, not to mention much thought, are often anchored despite the fact that they are helpful and in accord with all rules? Several of the Daily Bible Study Threads have been anchored for no apparent reason. One way to become tolerated is not to complain every time a thread gets anchored. If I did, I would be banned for the 22nd time. The admin carefully tolerate me because they know I bring traffic, but they definitely do not give me any special treatment, except Rummey, of course.

Your thread was a success because you finally provoked me into responding to you.

Are they practicing Muslims? Do they go to a mosque? If so, they're getting Arabic.

The very notion that the ideas and beliefs in the Koran cannot be even partially expressed or understood in English is completely absurd. Many theology scholars will tell you the old testament of the bible cannot be fully comprehended in it's English translation, one must learn Hebrew and translate it themselves to grasp the full meaning of "god's" word.

However, western Christianity does not view this as problematic. Why should the Muslim religion be any different?

Because Arabic is the supposed language of God and the Qu'ran was dictated by God to Muhammad. A Muslim, as the OP says he is, should know that.

Since he does not, I'm calling BS on him being a Muslim and I'm calling these "study threads" an obvious trolling attempt.
