What's with the early thread locking?

Is there some new algo that locks threads automatically if they havent had a post in x days?

I noticed it a few days ago on a few threads. But just now, it was some playoffs discussion thread on the sec rant. Not worth unlocking that one though, just wondering

we didn't want anchored threads being perpetually open for people to reply to them out of our sight...

Have you ever considered a board for “old takes exposed”? Where you could request an old thread be resurrected to active for people to continue discussions?
It would do better than 6-7 current boards if moderated with intent. I would be happy to help admin
