Probably because people were being unhelpful assholes. Here's what I think happened:

Sounds like you popped a rear sprocket loose from the secondary axel. Did you look around where you did this and see if you can find the sprocket on the ground. They can be a couple thousand to replace since the mechanic will have to custom mold it based on the type of secondary axel and reverse manifold you have. If it's an escalade you might have a catalytic receptor issue as well.
