Unless you have ads on the site, I don't see how your website can have a virus.

What makes you think it has a virus or might get one? Are you just paranoid?

I'm not an IT guy but it could be your virus software not recognizing your site as a secured site?

Poor guy was on the fark board trying to get help and ended up getting ridiculed. Anyone care to guess why he isn't sharing his website address on this site?

Ridicule?

Not sure why you would say that (unless you are familiar with the poster or the website and are stirring the pot).

The initial post said:

does anyone on here work or own a software company.need to ask a question on a web site?

I was the only response on the Fark Board thread. My reply was:

quote:

I'm sure that if your question can't be answered directly by a poster either here or on the Help Board - somebody can point you in the right direction.

I was trying to encourage bamaman8 to provide more details regarding his website's issues, as well as suggest he should expand his search onto the Help Board - increase the odds of soliciting qualified responses...

The thread that you referenced was his second attempt. His first attempt can be found HERE

And as you can see he was ridiculed a bit, especially after he disclosed what his site was. SORRY for the confusion...

AV apps are often over aggressive. If you aren't serving ads then one of 2 things is happening. You are using some freeware template/script/plugin that it doesn't like, or if you are operating on a shared server, it's possible someone else's site got the server infected.

To see if it's something you're using, try creating as plain a page as you are able to. If you can upload files directly try copying and uploading a page like this LINK

If it complains about that page either it doesn't like your entire domain, or the problem is on the server itself in which case you need to contact your web host.

Someone can hack his site and add a bit of code that gives site visitors a virus.

Someone can do a MySQL injection, and add a virus to pages that are database driven (photo gallery, forum, etc)

Someone can hack his host company server and infect the homepage of every site on a shared server.

Regular sites get targeted all the time. The biggest hosting company in the country ended up manually resetting every client's password last Fall because someone got into their servers and added malicious code to each site's homepage.

The only thing you can do is have a hard to crack password (mix of numbers, letters and characters), routinely check the files on your server for mysterious new files or subfolders, and keep database driven software updated with the latest patches that their companies offer.

I realize there are a lot of threats out there, but being a "new" site I'm sure it's not a very attractive target for "manual" hacking.

As for SQL injection (and even simple malicious anonymous comment links), that's why I asked if he had any CMS installed. (It turns out he does have Joomla 1.5.9 installed).

The most likely cause is the domain name itself. I know what it is and I can see how some over-aggressive software might not like it.
