I notice some naysayers say that the music board will garner no interest. Yet there are two youtube link threads on page one of the OT and three other music themed threads.

Music Board is going to be fun..

You could probably add an RA button for Illegal/Inapprioprate link, that will help sort out the links that could get the site in trouble and not have it all fall on the admins

I write this long post tonight to say that I think you should stop writing code for the music board. Music threads have no meat to them, them and their own board is just going to be a waste of time on your part I feel.

Look at the Modern Rock Madness thread by LSUalumni2001. It is a really good thread. Whittling down which band is the current best is a cool thing to participate in. Here's the thing though: there's no discussion. I've tried to get discussion going, other posters have tried, but it's just people going into the thread and people leaving the thread. But this should be getting all kinds of comments. I mean people's favorite bands are up on the chopping block and posters are just ho-humming along. Why?

I think it's because we can't comment on music. At least on this forum. It's not a bad thing, it's just not the right group of posters. To show what I mean, a very similar thread to LSUalumni2001's was made, but about Little Debbie cakes, and that thread got way more discussion than the music thread. I know you have all these posters asking for a music board, but when they have a great forum to talk about music, they don't contribute to it at all. So, I don't think we deserve a music board.

And this isn't the only time this has happened. It's a pretty regular occurrence. A link to a song and that's it. A band and song name and that is it. Then on the occasion when a poster posts their opinion, you have people jump on them and bash them, but offer really no reason for their offensive action. At least back it up? Maybe posters are just scared to offer up their opinion in fear that they would be ridiculed. What kind of inviting atmosphere is that? Music is subjective. It's that kind of animal. I don't think posters get that. Like I said, we don't deserve a music board, it's not the right group.

So what I am saying in all of this is, don't waste your time making a music board. Just leave it how it is. We are not mature enough for one, and we have failed time and time again in showing that we could actually have a viable music board. I don't mind taking flack for this, but I'd rather say it than not say it. Plus, I'm not one to say "I told you so." I'm more of a warning-voicer.

But in the end, it's your forum, so you can do what you want.

I have not read the Madness thread much less posted in it b/c it is a bullshite contest thread. It is a silly artificial attempt to make a competition where none exists. This kind of thing pops up on other boards I go to (for music and movies). Some people are addicted to the countdown/ranking mentality. Unfortunately they do not lend themselves to intelligent discussion so I avoid them.

Also Pec since you have gone over to the anti-music board dark side we are now deadly enemies. Only a complete about-face and recanting can return you to the world of niceness..
