i changed the name but not the way you wanted, i think
i might try and put in you current name but i am new to gimp so i dont know how good it will be

this is what i made.

i understand if you dont want to use it
but if you do host it on you own imageshack or what you want to use now its on my photobucket and i dont know how long it will be there

I took the purple silhouettes and colored in the areas that were blocked by the type, then selected them all and layered by copy.

Then i took original layer and duplicated it. Turned off one in case I screwed up. Created a box and used transform selection (first just stretching, then warp to get the curves)to create new stripes>layer by copy>select all>fill with solid color. Did this with each stripe then merged down to create a fresh background.

Fiddled with the text layer and the purple part until I found something I liked... Erased the purple in the left corner so the original white highlights remained.

Flatten image.
