this specific thread has many generations of german heritage.

It dates back to when the Germans attacked Pearl Harbor though it also includes their most recent defeat in the Gulf War.

In the years leading up to World War II, the German propaganda machine would run newspapers of events around the globe months after they actually occurred to obtain maximum spin. Accordingly, when a post is way late (i.e. as in already having been posted), it is considered "Germans"

Hugo
Since everyone on here wants to be an arsehole..
Germans basically means that there has already been a thread about a subject that someone posted again

you rock! thanks....kind of an elaborate slang term if you ask me...that term is never used like that in real life.

Putty's explanation is wrong. The origins are actually as follows:
When someone announces old news, a common sarcastic retort is "Japs Bomb Pearl Harbor." It's a reference to the newspaper headlines that ran on December 8, 1941: Link to Headline
At any point since December 10, 1941, the bombing of Pearl Harbor has been old news. When people use the phrase, they're making a statement that whatever you just said is old news.
What does this have to do with Germans? There is a classic scene from Animal House where Bluto asks "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" Watch on Youtube You see, that's funny because the Germans didn't bomb Pearl Harbor. In reference to that great movie line, the "Japs Bomb Pearl Harbor" line is often satired as "Germans Bomb Pearl Harbor." The phrase is used so frequently on message boards like the Rant, that it often gets shortened into "Germans." As an even deeper reference to that satire, folks will sometimes post a picture of a German or write something in actual German.
Got it?

Hugo Stiglitz shouldn't have to ask a question about Germans.

What a pile of crap!
Could you have come up with a more bullshittier pile of bullshite. I'll give you credit for being creative, but no one in their right mind would buy such a load of pure, unadulterated bullshite!
Dude. Animal House came out over 30 years ago!!
Putty's explanation was right on the money.
Joseph Goebbels was the Propaganda Minister in Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. He was well known to delay news stories and broadcasts to coincide with important Nazi events and meetings. In particular, he intentionally delayed news broadcasts to imply that Hitler was personally responsible for political and military victories.
Even as the Nazi machine was succumbing to inevitable defeat from the Russian onslaught on the Eastern front, Goebbels would intentionally delay news stories and broadcasts of Russian victories. Thousands and thousands of German civilians were caught in fire fights and battles on the Eastern front because the Nazi news sources delayed news of advancing Russian armies.
It was common parlance for the Allied forces during and after the war to describe late news items as "German news." Ultimately, delayed news was shortened to being called "Germans."

I'm glad someone caught that.

I am not denying that Goebels manipulated the news, but that reference does not explain the "Germans" concept as used in Tiger Rant. The Nazi's delayed publication of news was effective domestic propoganda because the facts were not well known by Germans before they were published (albeit late). The modern Internet concept of "Germans" is a reference to someone taking a well-known event and acting like it's breaking news.

Terrible. A term derived from pretty significant actual historical events is utilized on a website, and, even when the significance of the term is explained, you opt instead to credit obscure Hollywood and pop culture references that don't even make sense.
I'll bet you give credit to George Lucas for invention of the term "Stormtrooper" too, don't you? Idiot.
