Any chance at a military board?

There are lots of military guys and vets on this site. A lot of times we end up derailing threads to tell stupid stories filled with acronyms and things that most people don't get. I think it'd be nice to have a place to do that so we don't keep hijacking threads.
I know you guys are hesitant to start new boards for fear of watering down the site so I was thinking maybe a board like the team boards or the senior's board where not everyone has access to it and it so it doesn't get trolled.
Just a thought.

I actually really like the idea of a military/vet board. I don't necessarily think it should be restricted to veterans, but it could be a place for us to discuss common experiences to the greater benefit of TD. The SE is probably the most military friendly region in the western world and there are a ton of vets on here. We don't all agree on politics, the course of history, or foreign policy, but I think almost everyone on here who's served has taught me something about the nature of warfare and the obligation of service. Wouldn't hurt to have somewhere to focus these things.
And as I endorse this, I'd like to remind folks that GT23 and I are both pretty firmly in the "military receives undue deference" category. Just be nice to have something specialized.
As a bonus, we can roll our fitness routines into this (since there is demand for a fitness board as well). GT23 and some of the other ground studs can teach you guys good workout routines. Jbird and the Airdales can teach you about the benefits of Golf and expensive coffee. I can teach you how drinking a lot of hard liquor will ultimately keep you fit--at least on the outside. It'll be a joint service effort.

I personally don't care either way but I figured the admins may be more receptive to it being a hidden board or a restricted board like the SECRant team boards so as not to water down traffic on other boards or invite trolling.

A good idea.
That way the Political Board would be made more pure for truly political topics.
Military History issues and info would no longer clutter the PoliBoard.
There are some very, very well informed political folks around. They are that way because some of the actually work in politics. Why not let them have a board devoted purely to their profession?
What about those who work/worked in the profession of arms? They would appreciate a military board. I support a military board open to all, just like the poli board.

I'd support this. A lot of military history to hash about and I enjoy talking about it with people who really get history. Right now history topics pop up on the poli board and now and then on the OT...It would be great if we had a military/history topic only board.

I'm sorry to say that I cannot support this.
Military threads full of vets are just one feature of what makes the OT and poliboard interesting to read and it certainly doesn't clutter the board when it's a more than welcome addition. A military board would only further dilute and water down the OT and Poliboard.
Though, a plus I can see to a military board woukd be attracting more new quality posters but I doubt that happens.

I don't really care if access is limited or not. But there are some things I'd say on a board that was purely military that I wouldn't say on the rest of the site. I wouldn't want ot ti take away from any other board tho. Certainly there would need to be strict admining to make sure topics that needed to be on the OT ot the poliboard stayed there.
