I’ve read anything from under 20g, 25g, 30g or 50g. I’ve even read under 100g, but that might be a little extreme. I know exercise & athletics play a part as far as appropriate amount of carbs go, but talking just strictly diet. One of the reasons I’m asking, is because I love black beans & brown rice. And while considered healthy, both are carb heavy, although black beans are reasonable given the fiber content. Even with incorporating black beans into my diet, my daily net carbs only hovers around 50g.

This is more of a curiosity question, given the range of values that I’ve read.

Depends on the person. Go to the local pharmacy and get keto sticks and test your limit. Typically under 50g.

On the extreme end of the spectrum, elite athletes in peak physical condition can consume upwards of 250 g of carbs in a day, and still be in ketosis. Are you going for a Ketogenic diet?

I think for most people it breaks down to around 5-10% of your total calories consumed. The other 90-95% should be around 15-20% protein, and the rest should come from fat. That's if your desired goal is switching from glycogen from carbs to ketones for fuel.

You probably could just have a carb loading day once a week where you eat all the black beans and brown rice you want, assuming that your portions for those exceed your limit of carbs for a normal carb restricted day.

Not really. I broke it down and it comes out to around 53% protein/17% carbs/30% fat. Not high enough fat to be keto, and too high on the carbs to be PSMF. Whatever diet is in between those two I guess . It’s more of a lifestyle than a diet for myself. I’m 5’10 175, and stay pretty active, I like to bike & row. I need the fiber in my diet, and black beans provide that. I’m actually gonna try some riced cauliflower tonight, Bird’s Eye Italian Cheese Riced Cauliflower. Hopefully I won’t be disappointed...

Book I was reading that was some hybrid lower carb diet suggested the following: try to stay at about 15 net carbs every 6 hours

Their reasoning for this as opposed to a daily count is that digestive periods usually last about 6-8 hours

So, I tried the Bird’s Eye Italian Cheese Riced Cauliflower tonight, and it’s legit. One bag, which is a very generous amount has 135 calories, 6 grams net carbs, 7.5 grams of fat & 6 grams of protein. It surprised me, and this is coming from someone who generally despises vegetables, other than green beans, because they’re delicious. I would definitely recommend it as a rice substitute. I’m not saying it’s gonna be the same, but it’s not so noticeable either.
