What is a good pace on the elliptical?

Also, does the treadmill offer any major advantages over the elliptical?
I've been trying to add some cardio to my routine lately. I have never done any running until very recently. I am running 3 miles in about 25 minutes, gradually increasing the resistance, 3-5x/week. Should I focus on shorter mile times? Longer distance? Just looking for some general advice.

Each machine is different and it depends on what resistance you're going at

Google VO 2 max intervals. Switched to that a year ago and it has really improved my cardio. Each run is different on the treadmill and in about half the time of my old long runs.
