Torn Labrum

Anyone have any experience dealing with a torn labrum? I’ve tried cortisone injections, PT, and even ultrasound-guided injection, but my latest MRI showed the tear getting worse. Looking like surgery is my last option, but probably only thing that’s going to get me back to where I won’t be in pain. Wondering if anyone has had the surgery and what recovery was like.
FYI...this labral tear is in my hip joint.

How did you sustain the labrum year in the hip? Was it a workout injury?

Acetabular Impingement seems to be the culprit. The excess bone from a cam type of impingement likely rubbed against the labrum over time and eventually tore.
From what doctor told me, doing deep squats with low weight was probably what finally did me in. Funny because I was lifting really heavy on squats and decided that wasn’t good for my back long term, so I dropped weight significantly to go lower and possibly increase my range of motion and flexibility in my legs.
The pain comes and goes, but sitting Indian-style, bending over to put on socks/tie shoes, and walking up steps or uphill are most painful things.

I tore the labrum in my shoulder. Pain was pretty bad after surgery. Recovery wasn't too bad. Just go to PT and do what they say and you should get full ROM back.

Buy a plane ticket go see this guy this is not a run of the mill injury most orthos see go see this guy LINK
He has a long list of professional athletes he has as clients for labrum tears. This is a surgery he does often and probably one of the best in the world. Jump on Southwest Airlines go see him.

Did an MRI disclose the tear? How big is the tear?

If the tear isn’t healing... bro. You probably need to bite the bullet before you start damaging other structures within the joint and structures away from the joint due to compensation.

The MRI showed the tear in a couple different views. Doctor said it was a “pretty significant” tear. Not sure how big it is. I’ll have to go check back through my MRI scans and see if any views say how big it is.
Got the call yesterday that the ultrasound-guided injection I got last week was used as a confirmation of the tear. They injected nerve blocker with cortisone. I felt great over the weekend, but pain started coming back which is exactly what he wanted to see before pulling trigger on surgery.
It’s going to be tough to not be active for a handful of months, but if I can reduce the lain I’ve been feeling, then I’m going to do it.

Thanks for this info. I’m definitely going to at least contact him.

That’s the only person you need to see for surgery. Good luck

Get the surgery done ASAP. It will only get worse. (I tore both of mine, different occasions) If I could go back in time I'd have the surgery the next day.
Edit: shoulders not hips
