Steel shot for sandbag training

If you rassle with the sandbags you know that above a certain weight, the sheer volume of the sand gets to be a hassle. I found these steel shot ballast bags online. Replacing some of the sand with one or more should make the volume easier to deal with. They arrive next week. I'll post a review. LINK

How heavy are you going with the sandbags?

I always thought the sheer volume of the sand was part of the fun.
I have a 200, 250 and 300 LBer and a big part of the challenge is that the higher weights are so big and tough to maneuver.

I tried to bearhug 150 lbs of sand the other day and I could barely get my arms around the bag. I ordered 4 of the 50 lb shot bags which should be plenty for the forseeable future.
I agree that the awkwardness is part of the fun, but there comes a point where it's just unmanageable. I'm not a short guy but I'm not super tall either, and the volume of sand is getting to be a problem.

What bags are you using?
I've gone to Rogue bags and they're built better than a lot of others to be challenging, but not ridiculously awkward.

Ironmind. I've been looking at Rogue and a couple of others.

I used to have Ironmind and made the change to Rogue. It's been a good change. Ironmind got to the point where I could fill it to the top, but it was basically impossible to get my arms around it then.
Rogue is more conveniently designed. Less sloshing and better proportions. Ironmind was too rectangular.

Yeah just looking at the pictures the Rogue bag is longer than it is wide. Thanks for the recommendation.

So these things are about twice the density of the same weight of sand. Made of heavy cordura, with a convenient strap to carry them by. Each one is about the size of those throw pillows your meemaw has on her sofa. 150 lbs of them in a sandbag makes it more manageable, but by no means easy. It's still pretty awkward but at least I can get my arms around the thing now. They also come in 5 and 25 lb increments, and I may get a few of those too, to make adding or subtracting weight easier.
