Been doing Stonglifts 5x5 for a couple of months now. As much as I love (whether I should or not) that "I had a great workout" feeling of muscle soreness, are there any ways to deal with the pain that is so bad that it wakes you up? I hate that feeling of leg pain that hurts so much I can't get back to sleep. I'd rather not just go pop a couple of motrin either. Any other ways to keep these muscles happy? TIA.

Stay hydrated, take glutamine, stretch, foam roll, go to sleep sooner or wake up later, hot/cold shower, sauna.

Try those things if you’re able to.

2 months in you should not get DOMS that bad. Sore yes, but not crazy I cannot move DOMS.

Besides what listed above, maybe step back and take a deload to help the muscles a little.

5x5 does not come with a deload week, unless you fail 3 times. Other programs like 531 add in a deload/light week to help out.

Squatting heavy 3 times a week can be killer. You can also try switching squats to 3x5 (starting strength method). You will still progress the same doing 3x5.

BCAA's before and after workout (pre and post Jym specifically), carbs and protein during workout (gatorade powder and unflavored whey), and a protein shake around 30 min. after the workout. I used to get DOMS really bad and doing the above has eliminated it.
