Rotator cuff surgery with a caveat.

When they got in there my bicep tendon was hanging by a thread so they cut it off and reattached lower down the arm bone. My surgeon said this will take a long time to heal and recommend a full yr off weights. Has anyone has this exact surgery that lifts weights? Thanks

I had the exact same thing, but my bicep was completely detached, slept in a recliner for 8 weeks, wore sling for 8 weeks PT for 6 months, NEVER AGAIN

Yes its been an extremely painful recovery. The labrum repair, bone shaving and ligament are fine now
It's just the site by my arm pit where they reattached my bicep tendon that is sore. Best thing I did was an ice machine I bought off Amazon. I slept on the recliner with it turned on.

My fiance had this when he had one of his four shoulder surgeries. He lifts now but with lighter loads, more reps. His range of motion has been affected some as well so he avoids anything that potentially aggravates that.

It really is. The site near my arm pit where they reattached the bicep tendon is the most painful area.

I had an acute rupture of my right biceps long head and SLAP tear to go with it back in October. Was in surgery within 5 days. Biceps tendodesis through 1.5” incision in front of my armpit, SLAP repair & shave acromion were done arthroscopic. Post op wasn’t bad at all. Ice water pump was great. Percocet was not near as effective as 2 Tylenol every 6 hours. Slept in the bed on night 4 post surgery. I couldn’t sleep
Worth a damn in the recliner and felt like I might hurt myself getting out of it during the night.
Started PT 3 days after surgery. Wore brace 24/7 for 2 weeks (took off for PT and shower). Then week 3 wore brace during the day if I was up and moving and all night, but took it off if I was sitting on the couch. Made sure to support arm with pillow. Week 4 they let me ditch the brace during the day, but keep hand in pocket for support. Still wore brace to sleep. Week 5 I wore the brace at night too.
Did PT for 5 months. I started back swimming in January. PT said swimming was an amazing opportunity for the rehab process. After 12 weeks of PT it basically turned from physical therapy to personal training. He had me doing lots of combination exercise/movements with as much weight and reps as I felt comfortable doing (within reason, of course).
Currently 6 months post op. Full range of motion. Strength is about 85% of what I was before. Swimming as fast as I was pre-accident. Swim 15,000yds/week. Arm is fine for fishing. Doing light weights, zero issues. He told me no press or pull downs behind the neck…. Forever on. Preferably dumbbell military press, no bar. Haven’t tried golf yet. Haven’t tried to shoot a shotgun yet. It does feel slightly different than my other arm. Not painful, just different. I do get a little pain in the actual bicep reattachment spot when I dive into the pool. Hopefully that goes away in 6 more months.
Had to miss 7 weeks of work. When I started back I had some limitations. Lots of popping and clicking when I reached for instruments or even just using my right arm/hand during procedures. I have zero limitations on work now. Pops & clicks are almost gone.
