Has anyone had this surgery? My orthopedic is recommending it and it’s really intense. 6 month recovery. Did it work, are you able to have an active lifestyle?

Thanks

How old are you? You should be able to return to an reasonably active lifestyle.

My wife has hip displaysia and she is a n iron man competitor /long distance runner for 25 years. After being told what the surgery would entail and chances for her to be able to return to long distance stuff, she opted to pass on the surgery, take time off and do thorough rehab. So far she's been fine. She scaled back to doing mostly half marathons and shorter stuff but she can still go.

I’m 41. The other option is a hip replacement. Hoping to not have to have that surgery till I’m much older.

How’s your cartilage look? I would think odds are your cartilage isn’t in great shape if you have dealt with hip dysplasia into your 40’s. I’d opt for an anterior hip if I was you but just wait it out as long as you can. I’m kinda surprised the PAO was even discussed due to your age. Pretty high percentage that you will eventually get a hip replacement on down the road even if you get a PAO.
