Anybody overcome the lack of discipline when it comes to food? How did you do it? What does it take?

you just got want it bad enough. not sure what else to say. either you do or you dont.

that being said, eating healthy does not mean eating bad food necessarily. i dont know you level of skill in the kitchen but learning to cook and understand how to make dishes not just copy recipes helps making good tasting healthy food.

But it’s a good test for myself. How bad do I want to win over my eating? Am I willing to instruct my family to be my support? If they become detrimental to my goal, how willing am I to nuke the family? Not necessarily in divorce, but I have a walked out of the house because the dinner I expected was switched suddenly for something that would lead me astray.

Wow this is impressive! I think this is what a lot of people need. Extreme accountability, and measures,(often hard to ask people for that, you do not want to burden your family with your own struggles.) at least temporarily to create some space from the habit. I find that if I cut out highly palatable foods, strawberries taste delicious, and broccoli with some butter is amazing, I crave avocados and Tony’s. But starting a trend might as well be like quitting crack.

On a sidenote, in my opinion, I don’t really think we have ability to choose the things we want like we believe. But with intervention we can force the issue. Those interventions can be knowledge gained, come from others, or structure set up like in atomic habits so we force the results.

I reject any "willpower" arguments that torture your body. The thing I think people neglect is that cravings are accurate. It is no different than being thirsty after exercise. Elevated stress hormones like adrenaline or estrogen can cause salt or sugar craving for example. A good example of this is pregnant women, there is no doubt about their nutritional deficiencies causing cravings because they are literally eating for two. The problem is we train our bodies to seek suboptimal foods (Pizza = glucose). The way I dealt with cravings is understanding the major things my body needs and being well fed in those things. Getting rid of foods that also lead to insufficient absorption of nutrients helps too.

I don’t see how anybody does that fasting shite, I’d be miserable

Its miserable at first but eventually you lose the hunger...the real misery is the boredom and extra time due to the loss of preparing food/eating in your daily routine.

Biblically speaking, that time was to be filled with prayer.

If that isn’t one’s bag, the down time can be filled with writing, guitar playing, hobbies, etc. it’s a grind. Speaking from the perspective of someone that has done a month long fast.

I did a 4-week fast leading up to my 40th bday two years ago. Drank buttermilk blended with raw yard eggs with hot sauce.

Broke fast on my bday with a ribeye and grilled shrimp.

During the fast? Because if so, that's not fasting. That's simply ingesting disgusting shite instead of eating.

If you had gone truly water fast for 4 weeks, youd have probably been in some initial pain after eating that. A big meal high in carbs I think can actually kill you after a long fast.

I am currently working on becoming healthier.

I find that having a set routine in the morning helps. If you can do something for 3 weeks it becomes a habit.

Every morning I eat a Greek yogurt with granola and Berries along with a green drink (Huel, ag1, green vibrance, etc) with protein powder added. I also take my vitamins.

I feel that as long as I do this I set myself up for success later in the day as I don’t want to “waste” my early morning investment.

Also, packing (if going to work) healthy snacks really helps.

It wasn’t water only. But I don’t think drinking buttermilk constitutes “not fasting”.

It was an adjustment for sure.

You try buttermilk, coffee, water for a month and let me know if you think it’s fasting or not.
