At my annual physical yesterday, the Doc told me that I have a 'little bit of a hernia' on my right side. Also mentioned that some people go their entire lives with a hernia but no discomfort. Recommended that I get surgery if it ever starts to bother me, although not required.

I haven't had any symptoms yet, apparently just got it within past year since I had my last physical in early 2018. I'm 40 and my exercise routine is above average regarding intensity. While I do a lot of squats/lunges/deadlifts, they are typically not very heavy.

The one (sort of) exception is that I've started doing deadlifts with that hexagon(?) type bar within the past year. I weigh about 175 lbs but have never gone above lifting 225 lbs deadlifts for about 6-8 reps (which I previously didn't think was all that heavy). Never any discomfort but my plan is to simply stop doing this exercise but continue everything else. No surgery unless I start feeling discomfort. Anything wrong with this line of thinking?

If your Dr. is cool with it, go for it. My uncle had one for 20 years until he passed away. It never bothered him, so he didn't mess with it. The only problem would be further injury/creating a worse hernia. The bowel could get cut off and you have major problems. I had mine repaired only because I was hurt on the job and they were paying for it.
